Visual voicemail prompts lawsuit- Think Secret
Apple and AT&T are being sued for patent infringement
on account of the visual voicemail feature the iPhone employs.Klausner
Technologies, a company that exists in little more than name
only, is seeking $360 million in royalties and damages for
two patents it says visual voicemail infringes upon. Klausner
holds about 25 patents related to voicemail services and his
owned by a group of private investors; the company has previously
won lawsuits it filed against both AOL and Vonage.It's unknown
whether Klausner, some of whose patents are valid worldwide,
will file similar lawsuits against other iPhone carriers around
the world that also offer visual voicemail.

Alltel Feature Turns Voicemail to Text
Cellphone service provider Alltel unveiled a new feature
that uses voice-recognition software to allow wireless phone
customers to read their voicemail messages as text messages
instead of dialing in and listening to them. Fees for the
service start at $4.99 for 20 voicemail conversions a month
and go up to $19.99 monthly for 100 conversions.

Alltel Turns Voicemail Into Text
Alltel today is making a service called Voice2TXT available
to all its subscribers. If a user signs up, all voicemail
messages are transcribed and sent to his phone as text messages,
instead of having to call in to listen to them the traditional

New York-based Klausner said the lawsuit also names Comcast
Corp, Cablevision Systems Corp and eBay Inc's Skype as infringing
its patent for "visual voicemail." The plaintiff seeks an
additional $300 million from the three.
